The Circus Restaurant – Independent modern European near the Circus and Royal Crescent. Excellent reputation. Price: ££–£££ | Walking time: 12–15 minutes

The Olive Tree – Bath’s only Michelin-starred restaurant (at the Queensberry Hotel). Tasting menus for a special-occasion treat. Price: ££££ | Walking time: 15–18 minutes

Emberwood – Modern British open-fire cooking at the Francis Hotel. One of Bath’s strongest recent openings. Price: £££ | Walking time: 15–18 minutes
